The famous painting Ophelia was one of unlucky characters from William Shakespeare drama Hamlet, crushed on Hamlet but her father was one accomplice to kill Hamlet father who forbade and destroyed Ophelia and Hamlet relationship which was one reason that caused the tragedy of Ophelia. Ophelia was also one of representative and famous oil paintings reproduction made by John Everett Millais in his early ages, which now is collected in Tate Britain of London, England. Millais chose to describe the plot that Ophelia wanted to hang the wreath up to the tree but fell into the river. The painting depicts Ophelia almost sank into river, only the head, breast and left hand suspended. It also shows her face was pure and peaceful, her mouth was opening a little, muttering an odd song, her dress was scattering which all are correspondent to the plot of Hamlet. This point also reflects that Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was nuts about classical literature. In the same time, the painter also created the beautiful scenery in details, such as the clear water which reflects the white flowers and green trees clearly as they are in bank. Actually it should be a lamentable and dismal atmosphere according to Shakespeare drama, but Millais painted that sad story into elegant and noble by realism painting rules (painted every creature in real and detailed). Meanwhile every images of this painting are in the same level except Ophelia left hand, a waterweed and several flowers which followed the unify and comparison rules. These two points are the reasons why Ophelia caused a sensation to British art circle at that age.
