Business cards are made using paper stock. This paper stock is also termed as card stock. The ordinary thickness of this card stock is 12 point or in the pound weight system, 100 pounds. We can use much thicker paper also these days for printing business cards as today’s printers are much more capable than the printers of the past. These printers can handle thicker as well as glossier paper easily. It is usually difficult to write quickly to glossy and smooth surfaces as the drying time of ink is much more on these surfaces due to phenomenon of physics. Let us talk about the importance of business cards! Business cards are great for formal introductions. They are also useful for securing appointments and at all kinds of formal and company gatherings. Sometimes business cards can be used even for providing your identification. Business cards directly relate to our social importance and our company affiliation and designations carry the message of our economical power and prestige. It is not an issue in our view if you spend a bit on these important business cards. Yet, if we look at modern times, the world economy is suffering; many of us are facing harder and harder times economically. It is getting very important to make very careful decisions regarding our expenditure and income. Having business cards printed is an expenditure whose advantage must be measured against its usage. Sure, the business cards are essential and very useful. The question however is, you do not need to spend a fortune of these business cards unless they directly bring you sales and market traffic for some specialized businesses. Using cheaper business cards certainly does not mean that they will be of very inferior quality. It means that in most cases, these cheaper cards will be much more than enough for the uses we require off our business cards. If we look at modern business card printing methods, we observe that there are two distinct methods of offset printing and digital printing. Offset printing uses spot colors which infuse beautifully in the paper and have a long life. They are also very fine and can be used to draw artistic lines and diagrams. The disadvantage for offset printing is that specific preparation is required for each print to prepare the rubber that contains the image data in the form of lines and letters which it presses against card stock. It has some cost involved for preparation. Once this die I created though, each subsequent print takes very little printing cost. Offset printing therefore provides the cheap solution for business cards when there are a large number of required business cards that need to be printed. Digital printing methods use digital imaging to print out business cards. These days, very advance digital printers are available which provide performance which is very close to offset printing for the usual prints. Digital printing has a fixed per print cost as the same mechanism is repeated for all the number of prints. Digital printers use a set of colors which they can mix together to form any colors. These printers are now also capable of printing on plastic material and provide cheap business cards for people who are content with them.
