Abortion is considered as a safe procedure, and in majority of the cases it is safe. However, we can see many complications too, as a result of abortion. Complications depend on various factors, like age of the mother and gestational age of fetus. Abortion is safe in early stages of pregnancy, after first trimester, it gets more complicated an abort a pregnancy. Here we are discussing some complications, which are associated with abortion. Women face these complications no matter abortion is surgical or done with a medical method. • Uterine perforation is commonly seen in those women who abort their pregnancy. • Sometimes fetus is not completely removed from the uterus, some tissue are left in the body of the woman. It causes some serious complications for the woman, and leads to infections. • After an abortion, cervical perforations are also very common. • Sometimes bladder of the mother gets injured during surgical procedure of abortion, which leads to serious complications at later stages. • When a woman chooses surgical abortion, some doctors give anesthesia to avoid the pain. A lot of complications are related to anesthesia as well. • The some rare cases women lose their lives as a result of abortion. Reason can be excessive bleeding or any other complication. • Abortion increases the chances of women to get ovarian and cervical cancers. • Like medical complications, women also experience psychological complications like depression, low self esteem and anxiety. • PID or Pelvic Inflammatory disease is a common problem after abortion. • Some women suffer from cardiac arrest, as a side effect of medicines given after abortion. Although, it is rare but it is seen in many women. These are just the few complications, which are observed in women after abortion. Many others are also noticed, but that depend on the age of mother and expertise of doctor. However, the important thing is to avoid these complications. Proper monitoring can help to avoid these problems. For instance, the temperature of the patient should be normal after abortion and there should not be excessive bleeding. Other problems like bladder injuries are not easy to notice, but symptoms like rectal softness point towards them. If patient feel discomfort after a day or two, she should consult to her doctor, as it can be serious. All these problems can be avoided, by discussing your medical history with the doctor, before abortion. Especially, if you have any kind of allergies, you must tell your doctor about that. Regular check up after the abortion and an Ultra sound can actually help to minimize the complications. Spouse should also take care of patient as a mother pass through serious physical and psychological stress after abortion. Proper care and regular medical advice can help to avoid all these complications, which are associated with abortion. It is a safe procedure, but a little negligence can cause serious complications.
