How to Sew a Zipper

Business
Type of zippers and feet

First, let's talk about some type of zipper foot is used to connect them.

Today, I use what I would call a "general" zipper, which is regularly, because when you take it seriously, you can still see around the zipper teeth and fabrics. However, the second option is that when properly installed, hidden in the fabric, these are mostly used in the garment structure invisible zipper. Zipper teeth with metal or plastic can with them (which is what we stitch), there are generally some sort of woven cloth "tape."

Let's see the sewing supplies zippers feet. There is usually a zipper foot looks like and what it is narrower than the other foot, and there is a gap on either side, so that the needle stitched near zipper teeth, but still keeping the fabric in place.

How to sew a zipper

Your zipper foot may look slightly different if you have a Janome or other type of machine with a snap on foot. It may look like this:

This pin is not useful for the machine with the option to change the position of the needle, on the contrary, change the position of your foot. (Please note that it still has an indentation and a narrow foot area).

If you intend to invisible zipper, you need a completely different foot (although I have to admit, I've put a using my regular zipper foot, I know there are differences). An invisible zipper foot will be flat on the top with a groove on the bottom to guide the zipper teeth along.

How to sew a zipper needle position

When you are attaching the zipper, start with the teeth down, on the fabric. Line up the edge of the zipper tape with the raw edge of your fabric. My sewing machine, I moved to the leftmost position, I began sewing needle. This is important, because if you start to not move, stitch, you will hit a metal presser foot! I always back seam, when I sew zippers, belt, and start and stop.

If you are doing some kind of a handbag or clutch with separating zippers, your pattern may tell you, open the zipper and top stitch on the other side of the zipper is very close. You guessed how? You can easily do this, your zipper foot! But before you do, folded zipper (so you can see it in front of the fabric) gently press the zipper tape and fabric level. Be careful not to linger too long plastic teeth, with a hot iron! Now, just move the needle to the far right (or move the presser foot) and proceed to stitch on the top of the fabric, very close to the zipper. Remember, now you're going through some extra layer fabric (mine between shots), so you may need a little more help under the guidance of, the fabric edge. Press and hold the top splice point is, when you create zipper tape pimple.
