The area is famous in film with the opening scene of the flick the Beach featuring Leonardo DiCaprio taking place along Khao San Road. The area is also popular among the back-packer crowd needing to take part in the purchase of bootlegged CDs and DVDs, knock off clothing, baggage, and more. In contrast to the seedy reputation of Bangkok's nightlife during the past, the town has turned over a new leaf and is developing into offering some of the finest places to frequent after dark in all of Southeast Pacific Rim. Whatever your taste in nightlife, Bangkok has something for everybody. From enormous clubs to tiny intimate dinner and bars, there's a place for each taste. Like most major towns, taxi taxis and tuk-tuks are available on just about every corner to provide convenient and really cheap transport to the area's hotspots. Sukhumvit Road is a high end area featuring five star hostels, fun bars, and many entertainment options. From the Nana Piazza which offers a big complicated full of go-go bars, to dining options for those prepared for a night in town. The stores in the area stay open late and buyers have their free run of retail treatment late into the night. Almost all of the malls and market areas run extended hours and do almost all of their business after sundown. One of the more well-liked shopping locations is the night market at Patpong in the Silom area. If you can get passed the seedy bars and continue into the market, visitors can stroll off with a much wanted duplicate watches or purses.
