Fungus gnats belong to the species of flies. These insects are approximately one millimeter in length. Gnats can be distinguished easily recognized by black and scrawny bodies compared to other fruit flies with bulging body frames. At times, gnats can be seen crawling especially while in the process of mating. These pests are often attracted to light and are frequently seen in window ledges. This variety of flies is attracted to damp areas, fungus, and manure containers. Potting soil for houseplants also provide an environment for fungus gnats. Gnats can be eliminated by seeing to it that your indoor storage bins are uncovered. At the same time, allow the top layer of the bedding dry while maintaining tiers underneath 50 percent moist for effective composting. By doing this, the vermin remain beneath the bin's surface where it is wet and do not climb up to the top surface. Try to dry your houseplants more often if you notice gnats coming out due to the moisture. Fungus gnats are not harmful but these can cause you annoyance because you may find the pests everywhere. The key is to put in place an effective pest control system and reduce the volume of dampness in the soil. Be sure to utilize high-quality potting soil that can be drained easily. Refrain from using black or garden soil. Purchase sanitary soil for your seedbeds. Spread out the watering schedule towards the end of the summer season so the first centimeters of the soil will dry out easily. Remember that larvae thrive on humid grounds. You may use yellow adhesive paper to trap the adult bugs. These can be purchased in garden supply stores or opt for the DIY paper traps with glue. Inspect your traps regularly and replace these with new products if necessary. Place a layer of gravel on the surface of the soil where the female insects can lay eggs. Refrain from putting organic material on the top portion of the soil. Clean the draining containers very carefully and remove the organic fragments that fall down on the soil frequently. You can insert potato pieces on the soil so the larva can feed on this. Replace with new stocks after the potatoes have been consumed. Opt for insecticide if the degree of infestation has become more serious. Use a generous portion on the pots, soil and dishes. Do this procedure daily several times and repeat every five days. Untreated areas can lead to re-infestation. If you want to know more about fungus gnats and fungus gnat control, just click on the links. Or you can visit CX Hydroponics website.
