People often visit the Caribbean and other outlying islands to get married or enjoy their honeymoon; there is something about the region that inevitably endears it to the young at heart. So, despite everything that is available in a luxury hotel, Caribbean visitors continue to leave the confines of their accommodation to discover off-the-beaten-path destinations in the region. Perhaps they are on the endless search for that ideal, utterly perfect moment, when there’s no one else but them, strolling hand-in-hand in the sunset, the waves gently lapping at their feet. Speaking of such romance-conducive beaches, here are three of the best. Crane Beach In Barbados, roughly a dozen miles from Bridgetown, is a beach that is so beautiful it has been chosen (by a majority vote among tourists) as among the top 10 best beaches in the world: Crane Beach. Incidentally, it is overlooked by a similarly named luxury hotel. Caribbean beauty and that old romantic ambiance are alive and pervasive here: in fact (so gushed by an international travel magazine), the beach seems to have been created by Mother Nature for romantic strolls. It is blessed with relatively calm water, fine white sand, and the overall charm of an upscale setting. Grand Anse In Grenada’s Grand Anse, although there is always a nearby luxury hotel, Caribbean charm is still powerful enough to sway hearts and minds. The area boasts fine dining places, fast-food restaurants, bars, cafes and outfits that rent out water sports equipment. It may not look like your ideal romantic beach - with the crowds and the bustle - however it is essentially redeemed by its dominant quality - the white sand beach, which is long enough to not feel crowded any time. While it is still perfect for a romantic stroll, it is also wonderful for a romantic dinner. With verdant hills as a backdrop, and the dazzling turquoise waters in front, you soon understand why they heap superlatives upon the Grand Anse. Baby Beach In the island of Aruba, just around the south-eastern end, is a sheltered lagoon whose endearing qualities have earned it its name: Baby Beach. It is so called because the waters are as shallow as one you’d find in an average bath tub, and while the lagoon is actually man-made, the rest is not. The clear water has a maximum depth of only five feet, making it an ideal spot for the younger ones. The beach is covered with sand so soft it almost feels like talcum powder and it seriously has to be experienced to be understood. When you stay in a luxury hotel, Caribbean hospitality is on display – and the locals of this area are just as welcoming and you can expect them to go out of their way to help you. While Baby Beach is recommended for families, it is, of course, the perfect spot for couples looking for an easy, romantic stroll. Cheryl Matthews works for the Essential Hotel Collection.
