It’s coming up to the school holidays again and this time it’s going to be the long summer holidays. That means a whole six weeks of having to find ways to entertain your children and keep them occupied and prevent them from saying that they’re bored. How on earth are you going to manage that for a whole six weeks? There’s no denying that it is a long time, especially in the eyes of a child, but that’s why I’ve come up with some suggestions for holiday activities that will keep every child happy during the summer. Help in the garden During the summer, you’re likely to want to spend a long time sat out relaxing in the garden, catching up on reading while your kids are playing in the fresh air. But in order to do that, you’ll have to make your garden tidy and ready for the summer. After all, it won’t be a safe place for your kids to play in if everything is overgrown and there are weeds all over the place. So rather than do it all yourself whilst your kids are stuck inside complaining that they want to be in the garden, why not enrol their help in making the garden into a place for you all to enjoy. Put to work, kids can be great with a trowel, planting new flowers, or pulling up weeds. Paddling pool Hopefully we’ll be lucky enough to get a heat wave this year but as long as the weather stay warm and sunny, that gives you ample excuse to get the paddling pool out and fill it with lovely cold water to relax in. Your kids will love splashing around in their swimming gear, or using the water to have water fights on boiling hot days. Just make sure you put plenty of sun cream on them to avoid sun burn. Garden tennis Kids love playing outside and letting off steam so why not introduce them to a new sport this year. Playing tennis in the garden doesn’t have to risk damaging your house windows. Invest in short tennis rackets that come complete with a sponge ball. That way, no-one will get hurt and your windows will be saved from inevitable smashing. Plus, it will really help to encourage hand-eye coordination skills in your kids, so their ability in sports as well as motor skills will be greatly improved and they’ll have great fun too. You’ll find multiple childrens books at The Book People on a range of subjects – invest in some gardening made easy books so they can help you in the garden. This online bookstore also has a good amount of holiday activity guides, so you’ll never be short of ideas again.
