5 must-visit museums in Bangkok: From weird to spooky to bizarre to historic

Travel & Tourism
Bangkok is the city of malls, markets, skyscrapers and temples. But it also has brewed up a number of museums each one better than the other. These museums can be really weird, whacky and even outlandish with some bizarre collections and relics to flaunt. As a tourist looking for a taste of Bangkok nightlife, you will be surely stumped, shaken and stirred at most of these places.

Here is a look at 5 must-visit museums in the city:

i. Forensic Museum: Forensic Museum can be very informative, enlightening, enriching, bizarre and, yes, spooky. This place houses human bodies that have been dead for ages. Using special chemicals and preservation methods, the corpses of many famous or infamous personalities are exhibited at this chamber. If you have a penchant for anatomy, crime, horror or medical science, then this place should be a must-visit.

ii. Human Imagery Museum: Bangkok tourism would also take you down the galleries of Human Imagery Museum. The best way to describe it would be to say that it is Thailand’s own Madame Tussaud’s. Thus, you have wax figures and fiber images of scores of people from various realms of life and profession. Some famous figures like Gandhi, Churchill and Lincoln have also found home in this quiet but enchanting corner.

iii. Museum of Counterfeit Goods: Your Bangkok packages may also take you to this museum which is the reservoir for thousands of counterfeit and fake items that the country has produced over the decades. This museum also reflects the fact that Thailand’s markets have been vehemently inundated with non-genuine products often sold to novice shoppers and innocent tourists at inflated prices. Though, this museum is open for tourists from Monday-Friday, one has to take an advance appointment.

iv. Museum of Siam: Museum of Siam is situated in the popular area just beside the Wat Pho Temple. It is one of the most visited museums in the city and shows a veritable vignette of the country’s art, culture and history. This place will compel you to contemplate by showing you some excellently made videos and by offering you insight into the country’s past and present. Bangkok tourism takes immense pride in this museum which is an interesting and informative place for young and old alike.

v. Philatelic or Stamp Museum: If you are a stamp collector, then this museum should certainly be a part of your Bangkok packages. The place is a sea of stamps that date back to the 19th century and cover various cities and countries in the process. These stamps are encased inside special glasses which offer a magnified view of the collectibles so that visitors can take a good, close and long look. This place is surely a great place for bringing back some good, old memories of your stamp-collecting days.
