How to Keep Granite Countertops and Tiles Spot Free

Home Improvement
Granite is the most preferred choice of the home makers when it comes to deciding the look of the house. Countertops, floor tiles and even on the walls, granite looks fabulous. Read further to keep it as new as it is right now.

Granite is the choice of material, most of the home makers and interior designers want to use in the house. It is simple, it is classy, it is elegant and it is stylish at the same time as well. Being available in a wide range of colors and patterns makes granite one of the most desirable choices. You can match it with walls of any color and can be transformed into any design to suit the look. Granite is named among the toughest materials found on earth and just lags behind diamond in toughness. Due to this toughness only, the interior designers prefer it as the best material for the flooring of the house and for the kitchen countertop. In the kitchen, the countertop has to go through many troubles. Hot utensils, tough stains, blow from the hammering of meat and crushing of the vegetables can affect the look of the kitchen countertops. Although granite is tough and durable, it can be affected due to regular exposure to all these factors.

Heat from the hot utensils placed directly on the granite countertops in kitchen can cause fading of the color, making it dull. In order to prevent it from getting dull or faded, place the hot utensils on a piece of clothing or on a stand. While cooking and preparing the food stains can get on the kitchen countertops. If not cleaned immediately they become tough on drying. Some of the home makers scratch the surface to remove these stains. Do not scratch the granite surface, it has been polished to give it the shine, and your scratching can harm the polish. Either immediately removes the stain with a soft wipe cloth or sprinkles some water detergent mixture on it and leave for some time. Now wipe of it with a soft cotton cloth to remove the stain.

Avoid acid based or strong detergents for cleaning the granite surface. These can affect the look of the granite. Hence use only mild detergent thrice a week to clean the granite surface. Regular use of detergent can also harm it. Granite tiles and countertops in the bathroom are regularly exposed to water and can develop water stains if they are not maintained properly. Regularly wipe the granite tiles and countertops when they are not in use. If there are stains from water, you can wipe them off using a mild detergent mixed in water with a sponge. A granite tile or the countertop is also prone to the scratches. The granite countertop can develop scratches and even stains. Do not use the granite countertop as a chopping board, the juices from the vegetables and fruits can cause stains. If you will take good care of the granite tile, it will surely remain as good as new.
