I first tried electronic cigarettes around 2 years ago. I was at a seminar in London when we went to a local restaurant for lunch. It was held in a smart upmarket bar with lots of business people having their lunch alongside us. I went to the bar to order another drink, and on my way I got a glimpse of someone smoking in the corner, by a nice log fire. At first I laughed, I found the cheek of it rather funny. I had been a dedicated tobacco smoker for around 25 years, I had tried to give up a few times, but I just enjoyed smoking too much and always ended up cracking after a few weeks and returning to my Golden Virginia tobacco. I approached the man to mention to him that he would get thrown out if was seen by the staff smoking, as we have had a smoking ban in public spaces in force in the UK for quite a few years now. As I got closer, I noticed something was strange about his "cigarette", instead of burning orange on the end, it was burning green! This confused me a great deal, as I had never in my life even heard about, let alone seen, an electronic cigarette. The man had a wry smile on his face as I approached, and he invited me over with a wave of his hand. I sat down next to him and asked him what on earth it was, and so my involvement with e-cigarettes began! I tried a few puffs which the man kindly offered me, and I was absolutely amazed at this thing. I was sitting there dying to go outside for a smoke, and yet this man was sat enjoying his e-cigarette in the comfort and warmth of the fireside. He got a few looks as these things were not well-known back then, but he seemed quite satisfied! I knew nothing of brands back then, I was brand new to the very concept of electronic cigarettes, but I believe he was using an E-Lites which is now a very popular brand in the UK. I began using these amazing devices myself, and over the course of the next 12 months I spent a small fortune trying out various brands, types, styles, flavours and other user-selectable choices.
