What to eat and drink in Goa

Travel & Tourism
Goa is a lovely place for the sea lovers, but it is a lovelier place for a foodie. There are so many restaurants and eateries in this Western Indian state that you will lose count in just a jiffy. Goa tour packages are tailored to give your tongues and throats some mixed pleasures of drinks and cuisines. So, no matter how finicky your taste buds are, you will always find something or the other to keep your happy. Though, one can go on rhapsodizing about the Goan food, here are some of the handpicked ones which are strongly recommended:

i. Fried fish: It may sound clichéd and not-quite-unique. But if you are into fish, then you must try the local Goan flavor. The freshly caught fishes from the local seas can indeed give you a high! Of course, Goa is noted for its seafood and if you haven’t dug into them, then you have certainly done a grave injustice to your bellies. Trying out these fried fishes will be one of the top things to do in Goa. So just sink into them and enjoy!

ii. Goan prawn curry: Again, seafood just rules this region. And prawn is one of the favorites of everyone including dignitaries like Sachin Tendulkar! How could you say no to the delights of Goan prawn curry when they just seem to make your tongues go ‘ooooh’ and ‘aaah’ in rapturous bliss! It is served red hot in most eateries and works best if you team it up with some steamed rice.

iii. Sorpotel: Sorpotel is something which you won’t find easily anywhere else in the country. It is made from pork and is extremely spicy (even spicier than the hot girls out there in their teeny tiny bikinis on the beaches)! Digging into Sorpotel is one of the most recommended things to do in Goa, especially if you happen to take pride in your gluttony. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to savor its pleasures if you are a strict vegetarian. But just in case you don’t mind non-veg, then its sight would be enough to send tremors down your digestive tracks.

iv. Coconut: Coconut or coconut juice is something which makes your Goa tour complete. It is like a stamp of authority, granting you the certificate of a tourist. Unless and until, you have slurped it over and over again, you would seriously be missing out on the fun. The best place to try them is definitely the beaches and under the sun. v. Fenny: Fenny is a drink or liquor which is native to Goa. Though it is made from coconut juice or cashew apple, it has alcoholic content and can give you that feeling of intoxication. Some tourists even bring back a bottle as a souvenir. Overall, under tour packages, you can have a full fill of your stomachs!

Author is a traveller and adventure seeker and loving her work roam around a number of travel destinations around the world. Currently she is responsible for writing about best time to visit Goa and places to visit in Goa.
