SOS Dogs tries to adopt these tiny creatures and provide whatever the dogs need (medication, shots, surgery, socialization and training) till they find perfect homes for them. This organization takes their task extremely seriously. They will not send the dogs to just any home. They will conduct a thorough screening process of the prospective homes and hand over the dogs only if it is acceptable. The criteria they are looking for in dog owners are that dog owners should love their pets, should be experience dog owners, and should never leave the dogs alone the entire day. How you can Help SOS Dogs urges pet lovers, to consider helping them save these little creatures. They urge those who can to help in two ways. - Foster – SOS Dogs needs volunteers, in the southern New Jersey area, who are willing and able to foster a small dog for a few weeks. Fostering is necessary only when SOS Dogs is unable to find new homes immediately for the dog because the previous owner is simply unable to keep it. If you wish to foster a dog for a few weeks, you should be able to devote a significant part of your life to this dog. You have to feed, bathe, and sometimes housebreak the dog. For doing this, you get to be a part of its life and help make the decision of the type of “forever home” is best for the dog. As you can see, the job of fostering a dog is a challenging, yet extremely rewarding one. Therefore, you should be absolutely sure you can foster a dog.
- Transporting – Another way you can help SOS Dogs is by helping transport the Yorkie. You may be required to pick up the dog and transport it some distance which may involve a few hours of driving. The process may be done alone or you may have a few other volunteer drivers to help with the transporting. Transporting is usually done on weekends and volunteers do not have to worry about missing work.
If you are hesitant about owning a dog, this is the perfect opportunity to find out what life will be like with a dog. You can try it out for a few weeks as a volunteer and, if you like it, adopt a dog. A dog is a perfect companion.
