People like to designate the summer time as the official vacation and travel season, but there's no rule that says summer is the only time to vacation. People need to travel throughout the year, and if they want to save money they'll travel by bus. Gas prices have been steadily on the rise, and thanks to the high cost of airplane fuel people can expect to pay more money if they want to travel by plane. Travel websites make it easy for travelers to find a bus quote for their trip so they can fit it into their budget. If you're planning on using a bus for your vacation make sure you follow these tips. Pack Light Since buses don't charge baggage fees people feel like it's okay to pack more than they usually would. The bus company may not be charging you fees for your extra bags, but you should still try to pack as lightly as you can. Other passengers need to load their luggage too, and the bus has a limited amount of space. If you're going to be in a hurry to grab your luggage once you arrive at your destination, try to wait until the last minute to load your bags. Since it'll be up front it'll be one of the first bags unloaded. Bring a Small Snack If you're going to be on your bus for five or more hours, most drivers will stop at least once at a rest stop so passengers can eat, stretch their legs, etc. They'll usually try to stop towards the middle of the trip, but heavy traffic and other unforeseen problems could make that difficult to do. Only pack foods that travel well, it's much easier to eat a granola bar on a moving bus than it is to eat soup. Bring Entertainment Unless you're traveling on a luxury bus, it's very unlikely that you'll be treated to an in-ride movie during your trip. A one hour bus ride can easily feel like three if you don't bring something to keep you occupied. Ipads, iphones, and ipods can provide a lot of entertainment, but if you plan on using them make sure you bring your headphones so you don't disturb your fellow travelers. If you want something that's less noisy, try bringing a book or even a craft to do on the bus.
