Known Your Earth: the Seven Continents of the World

Travel & Tourism
This article intends to inform the readers about earth and its seven continents. All the continents are mentioned in the list according to their size and population.

Our earth is a blend of water (70%) and soil (30%). There is an unreal line around the world, dividing the earth into two equal parts: North Pole and South Pole. The ground is divided into 7 large landmasses called the ‘continents’. Each continent encompasses multiple countries, islands, mountains and other natural resources. Some of the continents are joined, while the others are split by the waters.

The mentioned below are the 7 continents on the earth.

Asia: the largest continent covers around 9% of earth’s total surface and is the most populated landmass on the planet. The Ural River and mountains separate Asia from Europe. It is known for its diversity of religions, languages and geography. Asia is home to the highest mountain peak Everest, two world’s most populated countries ‘China’ and ‘India’ and some of the oldest civilization in the world. Many Asian countries like China, Japan and Saudi Arabia peninsula have a considerable position among world’s top economies.

Africa: it is the second largest continent of the earth with population about 1 billion in its 54 countries. The equator passes through this continent. Africa is noted for its unique topography and civilizations. It is largely a deserted island and is believed to the birthplace of mankind. It contains the longest river on the earth ‘Nile’ as well as the largest desert ‘Sahara’. The continent is basically divided into 3 main regions: Northern Plateau, the Central and Southern Plateau. Africa has long been a treasure trove of exotic flora & fauna in its flourishing stifling forests and marshy coastal regions.

North America: this landmass contains the Latin American regions and is home to about 23 Independent countries. It is third largest continent in the world with a large population consisting of about 8% of the world’s total people. It comprises of exceedingly unbalanced shoreline with many offshore islands. Greenland is the largest island of not just North America but also of the entire world.

South America: located in the south-western hemisphere, this continent is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. It contains 12 sovereign states along with some islands like ABC Island, Trinidad and Tobago. It ranks fourth in area and fifth in population. The Western or Eastern coasts of the continent have high population density, while the interior and the far south regions are sparsely populated.

Antarctica: the most remote corner of the earth, this continent is known as the coldest place on the earth. Much of the landmass is covered with snowy mountains and glaciers and it has a few native plants & animals. It is the earth’s southernmost continent with no permanent human residents.

Europe: this is small in size, but very important from economical, geographical and cultural point of view. It is densest populated continent on the earth, consisting of some of the oldest human civilizations including the Greeks and Romans. The countries like England, Ireland, Sicily, German and Italy are the parts of Europe. Euro is the commonly accepted currency of most of European countries.

Australia: the smallest of the continents, Australia lies on a continental shelf overlain by swallow sea. It contains the main Australia Island, Tasmania and many small neighbouring islands. It has the total land area of 8,560,000 square kilometres and is the lowest-lying human-inhabited continent.
