Arthritis of the hips is the most common reason for men and women to consider getting a hip implant operation, medical research says. Although the procedure improves the over-all mobility of the patient and decreases the pain, there are certain limitations that go together with it.

Crossing the operated leg. Rotating the operated leg inward. A pillow may be placed between the legs and on the side to keep the leg from rotating especially when sleeping.
Bending the operated leg more than the angle of 90 degrees. For those who have had a minimally invasive anterior approach may avoid:
Rotating their operated leg outward. Lying in prone position (face down). Crossing the operated leg. Extending the operated leg to the back. The new hip may influence some patients to try out different exercises to improve their joint mobility but are advised to avoid impact activities. These are activities that put pressure to joints such as running and jumping may cause the prosthesis to dislocate or to wear out easily. The physical therapist will pay a visit soon after the surgery to teach some basic exercises and guidelines in using the new artificial hip.
It is best to move about as soon as the body permits to help the circulation of the blood and practice in moving using the new hip.
