Bass guitar is a popular instrument, an important part of any band, and comparatively easier as well to play. There are different types of guitars, with the acoustic and the electric being the more popular ones with beginners. However, with time you also realize the importance of the bass in a band, and there are many who want to learn to play the bass guitar.
The best thing about this instrument is that it’s quite easy to learn to play. If this is your first time to play a bass guitar and you haven't played any other instrument, make sure that you use the fretted guitar. This will make it easier for you to learn the notes and how to play them.
But you need to get a guitar first, you have options of both right handed and left handed ones. These look more or less like electric guitars with a longer neck and are available in four, five or six strings. The bass guitar holds the music together whether it provides the low-end notes or the rhythmic pulse that drives the music forward.
These are also available in acoustic as well as electric versions, the Upright Bass or Acoustic Bass Guitar do not require amplification but the electric one definitely needs amps.
In terms of brands, there are several known ones with Epiphone being among the better one. The Epiphone Les Paul Standard is one of the most famous models and most people love it for its classic looks. The Les Paul sound is one of the most famous models all over the world and there are many who think that it produces the best sound.
Bass guitar strings are usually of a much heavier gauge than regular guitar strings, so they are less likely to break. However, it is still recommended that you change your bass guitar strings every couple of months whenever you feel its sounding dull. Over time, because of dirt and other reasons the strings can wear out.
In terms of learning options, you can get help of a DVD program or get some books to learn. Learning to play it well can take years of practice and playing though. You can find some good resources for free, if you look online.
Playing with others can also be fun, so see if you can enrol for some group music lessons. So start with the basics of bass guitar and then try to moving to the advanced lessons.
