The motorcycles and a mopeds has many differences in many areas, like speed, design, safety, engine, even in operating area and licensing. We this differences we can see how motorcycle agencies in each classify and regulate each type of machine. Here are the areas which mopeds and motorcycles differ from each other: Safety- Mopeds is unstable and hard to maneuver in encountering hazards on the road because mopeds engines and tires are smaller compared to motorcycles. Bikes have bigger tires and larger engine. It can run faster and can accelerate can accelerate quickly. Because of its bigger tires, it can maintain its balance especially when encountering road hazards or obstacles. Licensing- Both motorcycles and mopeds need to be registered. It is against the law to ride a motorcycle or any two-wheel vehicle without a motorcycle driver’s license and a motorcycle endorsement. The only difference is that a motorcycle requires a special endorsement to be driven without special restriction. In some places, mopeds only require to be registered only once while the motorcycle need to be renewed the registration yearly. Engines- the engines of the mopeds should not exceed 50cc, while motorcycles are made in different sizes and the engine range from 250cc to 1,400cc. Speed- mopeds can only reach a speed of no more then 30 miles per hour on a level surface unless it’s modified to travel faster. On the other hand a motorcycle is capable of reaching a maximum speed much higher than 30 miles per hour. That is why motorcycles high performance motorcycles are used for racing or motocross. Operating area- in some country mopeds has a specific part and special lane on the road. Most of the time, they are on the side of the road while motorcycles can operate in any lane of the road. Design- mopeds are made smaller than a motorcycle. They are created with smaller tires, lower than a motorcycle, lighter and more compact. Mopeds have pedals and are assisted by an engine while the motorcycle is powered by an engine only. These are the differences between a motorcycle and a moped. However, despite its differences, both are good means of transportation.
