Optimizing A Website's Usability On Mobile Devices

Internet,Marketing
Mobile Internet is continuing to grow very quickly at an unbelievable pace. The need for mobile web professionals to cope with the speed of this progress not just with regards to the frequency of new gadgets ushered into the market but also in terms of the increasing demand for sophisticated content design and functionality has grown starkly imposing. Optimizing web presence for mobile compatibility has then become a major thrust among companies and business individuals who want to maximize profit by grabbing what they see as an immense opportunity for growth in the mobile tech sector.

One somewhat rather obvious tip in doing mobile web a design is keeping content minimal. Simple but sophisticated is the way to go. Functionality doesn't have to be mean content overloaded nor complicated. Mobile web pages must be very focused. This makes them easier to read and navigate, and much faster to load.

In the same aesthetic line of simplicity, mobile web pages are best designed in just a single column. Unlike the desktop modeled webpages, mobile devices are much smaller. While zooming may be handy at times, it doesn't actually make a smooth browsing experience ultimately. Single columns make mobile pages easier to read and faster to scroll around.

The display limitation of mobile devices demands a different approach in presenting the navigation functionality of a site. One idea is to put all major sub-headings in one page, giving the user the choice on what content he/she only want to see in one instant. This could mean better navigation and more pages to create. The idea is basically to do more pages instead of cramming all writings in one page.

Text lines must likewise be simplified. The less keys users need to enter, the better. The logic is mobile devices are a lot smaller than desktops. Very often it is difficult to enter data on them as fast as you can with PCs. To cope with this gap in speed, mobile web pages must cut the number of keys it needs to execute a function.

Size up the audience of your website. Get a feel on what type of mobile devices they prefer using. This will help you decide whether you need more than one version of your mobile web site or not. For example, if the business of a site has market that covers all across the economic social spectrum, then most likely you'd need two or even tree versions of your site.

Optimize your design for the functionality enjoyed by your market niche. Thus is touchscreen is popular among your site's visitors, have your web page optimized for that functionality. That means layout your pages to maximize user-friendliness in a touchscreen environment. This goes also to other mobile device specifications that may appeal to a specific market niche.

Mobile phones have certain features that users don't usually enjoy with PCs. This gap can very well represent certain advantages that mobile web page developers must exploit. One good example is its phone functionality. You can create such short cut on your mobile website wherein users can click and use its phone feature right away from the page. Another good example is the GPS. Today, many mobile devices already have GPS systems integrated in them. If your website is about travel or giving directions, it is would be a no-brainer for you to take advantage of it.

Even other more general type of websites can take advantage of GPS or a stripped down mobile-intensive feature from Google maps. Just by putting a business address online making it searchable and thus locatable is already a huge advantage considering how this will work perfectly for a mobile device that can use such information in real time.

Optimization is actually simply making use of simple features in its maximum and most advantageous capacity. A simple yet cost-effective and functional approach can make more impact than a full-assault approach wherein feature-riches only complicates an experience instead of making it meaningful.
