The use of bioidentical hormone in hormone replacement therapy helps protect the patient against heart disease and reduce the risks of breast cancer. Fortunately, there are more providers who are willing to learn as they hear about compounding from menopausal patients. The body of a person has a lock and key hormonal structure which means they either manufacturer it or take it as supplements. These accurately fit and protect the patient from the possible dangers of having abnormal levels or unbalanced hormones. Bioidentical hormones are the types of hormones used in bio identical hormone replacement therapy. They are produced in a laboratory, made usually from plant components and are chemically identical to those hormones found in the human body. This is to exactly match the formula a woman body produces and uses. These plant derived hormones are typically called natural hormones. However, this creates confusion to some patients and doctors. Another aspect of bioidentical versus the synthetic hormone controversy is the source of material for synthetic hormones. But when creating synthetic versions, scientists failed to realize that some changes which they thought originally were less important would not be. Made from plant sources, they are typically made of Mexican wild yam and soy. Most practitioners and their patients now realize that synthetic and not bioidentical progesterone may be the reason in the increasing rate of breast cancer. This is one of their main differences and for this reason; bio identical hormone therapy is more suggested by doctors and preferred by patients. The physician typically prescribed a hormone test and a specific hormone supplement will be given consisting of different hormones harmonized to meet the exact and individual needs of the patient. They may include combination of estrogen and testosterone as well. However at the moment, very few doctors have experience with testing and prescribing compounded formulas as well as follow up required to tailor the formula to the response of the patient.
