Get to Appreciate the Allure of Scotland When You Visit Edinburgh

Travel & Tourism
When you go to London, everybody is aware of the enduring places that are part of this unforgettable city. But only four and one-half hours away by train is definitely an utter treasure which you mustn't overlook. My acquaintances in Glasgow are going to argue with me on this point, but if you have your pick between going to one of these two great cities in Scotland, by all means opt for Edinburgh. I realize it's hard to believe if you have the experience of train travel in America, but direct trains from London Kings Cross depart for Edinburgh every half hour, so departure times are never a concern.

At the time I lived in London, I had the opportunity to visit Edinburgh quite a few times. Except for the weather, this is truly a place everybody should not fail to see. Its dramatic landscape, with the visual point the Edinburgh Castle looking down on the city perched on an extinct volcano, along with some of the finest Georgian architecture that will be found anywhere within the United Kingdom make it pleasing visually. Plus if you are into history, the tours underground with dungeons and stories of witchcraft become very interesting.

But if you plan on visiting Edinburgh, if in any way possible go in August. Every year for roughly 25 days during that month it is possible to attend the biggest arts festival in the world. Last year there were a total of 2695 shows from 47 countries. There is a wide range of performing arts, with an important accent on comedy and theater. Any type of performance may participate, as there isn't a selection committee, so it is possible to find some innovative, untried works. Of the 2542 shows last year, 607 of them had been without charge, and most had been very reasonably priced. I thought the talent ranged from "all right" to "first-rate", however the shows normally will be abbreviated so it is swiftly on to the next one.

The arts are one of Edinburgh's highlights, as with every part within the British Isles. Outside from the festival time of year Edinburgh supports a variety of production companies and theaters. The National Museum of Scotland and five national galleries are located in the city, plus the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. One of the main highlights a lot of people make the most of (in fact, it's the second most popular paid tourist destination in Scotland, will be the 82 acre zoo. As of last summer they had two of the small number of panda bears outside China.

Lastly, the Scottish people are really great to be around. They are very friendly and willing to help, plus they all seem to have a great sense of humor. But at whatever time you go to Edinburgh, summer or winter, you'll want to dress warm. It rains a lot, and even in August the evenings might get rather cold and windy. But you will nonetheless enjoy the experience.

If you don't let the Scottish weather get to you, you can have a great time in Edinburgh. It is one of the great cities of the United Kingdom, and for that matter all of Europe, which you can check out on our website bestvacationeurope.com.
