One of the surest ways to achieve success in your Board and Pre Board exam is to follow the question papers of previous years. Most students who do well or come out as toppers are often quoted saying that following the last 5 years of last 10 years question papers helped them tremendously to ace the exams and pass with flying colors. However, many parents are confused that how is this helpful. In fact; in most of the cases it is absolutely sure that whatever was asked in the last year’s question paper will definitely not be asked this year. Then, how does following the past question papers benefit a student who is standing on the edge of the Pre Boards and is about to appear for his Board examinations in a few months. We can categories the benefits of following previous question papers in four broad headings. They are: - Improvement in Knowledge – A student answering for his Board exams is appearing for the first major examination of his life. It is difficult for him to gauge as to which question is important and which is not. Also, having a look at the last 5 or 10 years question paper makes him aware of the topics that he should be studying; that is it helps in his knowledge improvement and lets him know which topics are crucial and need absolute attention while which of them can be done away with by a mere glance.
- Information about Important Questions – If one closely follows the question papers of previous year, it is easy to make out which questions are getting repeated year after year. Needless to say that these questions are the most crucial ones and one cannot afford to miss studying them. Thus if a student is not too confident about his preparations, he can at least study these important question to get good marks in his Board and Pre Board exams.
- Deciphering a Pattern – Most Board exam question papers follow a specific pattern. It is easy to unravel that if one reads a lot of previous years question papers. That way, one can find out which important questions are asked frequently, which are never asked, what formulae to keep in mind and which theorems are often asked to be quoted. This will help the whole exam preparation of a student.
- Covers the Syllabus – Many students rely just on previous question papers instead of studying from the whole syllabus. Though this trend shouldn’t be encouraged much; but the question papers of many years taken together (5-10 years at least) almost sums up the whole syllabus; or at least the most important components of it. So even if the student ignores the syllabus, he ends up preparing for it.
