Thrush Treatment - Thrush Can Be Successfully Treated If You Adopt A Holistic Approach

Health
Yeast Infection (thrush) is an age old nuisance which plagues both men and woman. The problem with thrush is that it frequently reappears to haunt us so it is necessary to adopt a holistic approach to the treatment of thrush. Traditionally, thrush treatment entails the use of creams, ointments, suppositories and pills etc, which are either prescribed by a doctor or purchased over the counter from a chemist or even a supermarket in some countries.

However these thrush treatments may give some immediate relief but often the treatment does not cure the symptoms permanently. For this reason many sufferers turn to alternative remedies using natural products and tend to manage their treatment of thrush by themselves. It is safe to manage your own thrush treatment provided you have the knowledge to make informed decisions.

1) Consult Your Doctor

This is to ensure that the infection you have is in fact thrush which is most often caused by the yeast Candida albicans. It is also important to consult your doctor in case there are any other underlying conditions which may be the root cause of your recurrent thrush, for example uncontrolled diabetes.

2) Ensure You Have The Correct Diagnosis

This is important because there are a number of other infections which may mimic thrush and it is important to differentiate these because the treatment will be different. One study determined that only 33% of women who were self treating for vaginal thrush actually had a yeast infection. The other 67% of the women surveyed were actually infected with other types of microorganisms which needed different medications.

3) Use Any Medications As Directed

When the doctor prescribes a medication to treat thrush, such as an anti-yeast cream, or an antibiotic for a bacterial infection, it is essential that you use the medication as directed. Use the correct dose for the correct length of time. This prevents the causative organism such as Candida albicans from mutating and developing resistance to the medication being used. This rule also applies to anti-yeast medications you may purchase over the counter at chemists and supermarkets.

4) Research The Causative Organism, Candida albicans

In order to control recurrent thrush it is important to be informed. If you understand yeast and how it causes infections - where it lives, how it is transmitted and the disease process then you have a better chance of eradicating thrush forever.

5) Understand The Symptoms Of Thrush

There are many symptoms related to thrush infections depending on the site of infection. Thrush typically infects warm moist areas of the body such as the vagina (vaginal thrush), the mouth (oral thrush), the penile area (balanitis), warm moist areas of the skin such as the groin, under the breasts and in skin folds, the nappy area (nappy rash) and the nails (paronychia). If you suffer from recurrent thrush it is really important to get to know your own symptoms so that you can recognise when you have an outbreak of thrush and know when the symptoms are different so you can seek further medical attention.

6) Get To Know The Triggers

Many things can trigger thrush ranging from hormonal changes, diabetes, serious illnesses to reactions to washing powders, douches, nylon underwear and tight jeans. Try to establish what the trigger is for your infection so that you can either minimise or avoid the trigger altogether.

7) Treat Or Eliminate Any Underlying Causes

Obviously if you are diagnosed with an underlying illness or condition such as diabetes, cancer, AIDS or if you are pregnant you need to be under the guidance of your doctor and thrush infections should be taken seriously. It may be that the trigger is as simple as the type of contraceptive pill you have been prescribed. Research the known triggers and see if any of them relate to you and then either treat or eliminate the cause.

8) Change Your Diet

Yeast infections are nearly 80% dietary related so it is obvious that in order to eliminate recurrent yeast infections you must undertake some sort of dietary control regardless of whether or not you use medications or supplements. It is good idea to do some research about the type of foods which could trigger thrush and to eliminate those foods from your diet. It is also important to eat the foods which may help to eliminate the yeast from your system.

9) Change Your Life Style

Factors such as stress, fatigue and lack of exercise all have a contributing effect on recurrent thrush and you need to ensure that you address these factors when you want to eradicate thrush permanently.

10) Use Natural Anti-Yeast Products To Treat Thrush

There are numerous natural anti-yeast products available for the treatment of thrush. The great benefits of using natural medications is that they are inexpensive, readily available and can be used in any combination. This allows for the rotation of medications so that resistance to the natural medication does not build up. Because the medications are natural they are safe to use with very few side effects. You need to research what natural products would be suitable for you to use to treat your thrush.

11) Treat Your Partner

Thrush is not a sexually transmitted disease (STD) but it can be passed from one partner to the other and back again. It is advisable to treat both partners together as a precautionary measure, just in case the other partner is an asymptomatic carrier.

To sum up, the advisable way to treat thrush is to take on a holistic approach to the management and treatment of thrush. Many factors can contribute to recurrent thrush and it is really important to understand what those factors are so that an informed decision can be made about the best way to go about the treatment of thrush.
