Through the years, technology has changed our lives significantly. Work was made easier through the computers. Communication has been improved through the internet and through mobile phones. Consumer goods were readily available practically anywhere through vending machines. These innovative products have made our lives be on the fast lane- productivity increased and work was done faster than before. Mobile phones have been there for several years now but have been used for calls and not everybody has or needs one. Unlike before, almost everyone have their own mobile phones nowadays. It has become necessary for us to have this device to be able to easily communicate with our friends, colleagues and loved ones. Several years back, mobile phones are necessary but not exactly a need. In my opinion, these devices have become a necessity for all of us. The need emerged since Text Messaging has been introduced. For some reason, most of us now would prefer to send text messages rather than to call. It has become the cheapest way of communication rather than placing a call. Some may disagree with this but use of mobile phone became a part of our daily lives. It has become something we could not do without. Yes, it became a trend but later on when majority of us use mobile phones primarily for “texting”, others who do not want to go with the trend had no choice. They have to have their mobile phones for personal, work or business purposes. Several brands and models of mobile phones are available in the market. These are available in every electronic shop online. This shows that demand for this have significantly increased over the past years. We are given several options in mobile phones so as to satisfy our needs and wants. Some may prefer an IPhone, a Blackberry or an HTC etc. No matter what brand it may be, the vast number of mobile phones available in the market show that the trend/luxury is now a need. Cellular phones are practically available in every electronic shop online. These devices may not be classified as a basic need but as a social need. Indeed, having cellular phones have given us the sense of belongingness or acceptance among our social groups.
