Online shopping is an emerging trend these days. This concept developed gradually. Online retailing is a form of electronic commerce allowing consumers to directly buy goods or services from a seller over the Internet without an intermediary service. This process is called business-to-consumer (B2C) online retailing. In 1990, Tim Berners-Lee created the first World Wide Web server and browser. It opened for commercial use in 1991. In 1994, there were other advancements which took place, such as online banking and the opening of an online pizza shop by Pizza Hut. Online Shopping is one of the easiest and time saving methods of shopping these days. Let’s now understand some basic requirements to shop online. First of all you should have a bank account, a debit or a credit card and of course a computer with an internet access. You can either directly visit the website of the service provider or the retailer or you can search for various retailers using the different internet search engines. There are certain online retailers where you will have to open a permanent account before shopping from their website, so that you won’t have to enter your contact information every time you shop from that retailer. You can make the payment for the purchased goods using your credit or debit card but there are few retailers who provide an option of cash on delivery also. Payment can be made by cash, certified check or money order, depending on what is stipulated in the shipping contract. The bought items can be received by downloading them, if they are related to purchase of software, songs or music. Another way of receiving the goods is by picking up the goods from the nearest authorized store. There are a number of distributors which offer you the delivery of the products at your doorstep to avoid wastage of time and money which happens otherwise. This is the most preferred way of receiving goods as it saves the customer from a lot of hassle. These days there are many online shopping sites which are catering to the needs of customers wanting to save time and like to shop on just a click of a button. There are various sites which specifically focus on a particular category of products. For example there are a number of sites focusing only on baby products.
