ComForcare Franchise Supports Elderly Clients in Kansas City

Business News,Health,Seniors
Elderly care needs sometimes crop up unexpectedly. One woman in Kansas City asked her friend over for a cup of coffee. “How does it happen? One day my mother was vital and active, and then, without warning, she needed assistance. It seemed to happen overnight!”

It can seem like that for Baby Boomers: a beloved parent - once so fiercely independent and self-sufficient - finds it increasingly difficult to live with the same sense of self-assurance and quality of life. When the parent lives alone and possibly miles away from his or her children, even the smallest problems can be troubling. But too often, an elderly relative is too embarrassed to ask for help, too afraid of losing his or her independence and sense of dignity.

Shannon and Chad Trondson of Kansas City, Kansas understand this dilemma all too well. Nearly a decade ago, Chad realized that his elderly grandfather needed care to continue living independently. “I knew,” Chad recalled, “that there had to be services out there that could assist my family in a time of need. The research began with our parents, family, and friends and we discovered a home care company called ComForcare.”

ComForcare is a franchised home care business based in Michigan and Shannon and Chad decided to a ComForcare business locally.

“This is a family-owned business that treats our clients as if they were an extension of our own family,” said Shannon. “It’s that exceptional personal care that has built our reputation in this community. We only hire caregivers who are compassionate, enjoy working with people and have a noted capacity for caring, reliability and dependability. We have registered nurses on our caregiver team as well as certified nurse assistants. And our phones are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

The screening process used by Shannon and Chad to hire caregivers for their ComForcare team is a rigorous one. “We would never permit any of our team members to work for our clients that we wouldn’t have working for us in our own home,” said Shannon. “Each of our caregivers has unique gifts and talents. Some of them are exceptionally qualified to assist hospice patients. Others have the special patience and compassion required with Alzheimer’s care patients.”

At a time when busy working schedules make it increasingly difficult for children to spend quality time with elderly relatives or recovering patients, ComForcare ensures that their loved ones are reminded to take medications at the proper time, eat nourishing meals, enjoy conversation and camaraderie, and live in a safe, tidy environment.

“We are available for whatever periods of time that our clients need us to be there,” said Shannon. “That may be a few hours a week or 24 hours a day. We offer customized elderly care services for every situation.”

A very popular ComForcare service, says Chad, is providing respite care for primary family caregivers. “That can be invaluable for a family caregiver who simply needs a few hours every week to take some time off for personal errands or just a break from his or her daily routine. We’ve become a valuable resource for these family members.”

Positive feedback from their clients has been rewarding, Shannon and Chad say, and many of the referrals come from excellent word of mouth. But home care services can sometimes be a delicate subject for both parents and children.

“We try to make the process as positive and rewarding as possible for all the family members,” said Shannon.

The most important component of ComForcare’s mission is to provide quality care. Shannon and Chad offer exceptional service and improve the quality of life for their clients by giving a sense of security, very real compassion and the joy of living independently.
