Afterwards, a vaginal speculum is placed inside the patient’s vagina and dilation of the cervix begins. Serial enlarged dilators are generally used for the dilation of the cervix. Sterile catheter is then inserted inside and attached to an electric vacuum in order to remove the gestational tissue in a gentle manner. Intravenous sedation prevents the patients from remembering anything about the surgical process. However, the patients mat feels only minor cramping for about 10-15 minutes of operation. A good number of patients experience relief immediately after the procedure is completed. However, there may be certain side effects like depression, which are part and parcel of the surgical process.
