I haven’t seen a Twilight movie since I was dragged to the first one. I haven’t read the books or know much about the story other than there’s a human girl (Kristen Stewart) in love with a vampire (Robert Pattinson) and then there are werewolves (Taylor Lautner) thrown in there for some reason. I heard about the whole Team Edward vs Team Jacob thing but other than that, I went into The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 pretty clueless. Download The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 None of that mattered because the movie was awesome. It’s a really solid movie – twihards and newbies alike are going to enjoy it immensely. The pace is fast, the tone is both serious and light (when it needs to be), and it’s friggen violent – there’s a whole lot of action in there. Apparently there’s something in the end that wasn’t in the book and I’m sure there’s stuff in the book that didn’t make it to the big screen but the screenplay was really well done and explained practically everything that was happening as the movie progressed. As Bella’s eyes open to see her new husband, I opened my eyes to a much more mature Twilight movie. The first attempt I saw 4 years ago was really lousy and immature. This final movie was incredibly well polished and you can tell the writers and director thought it through. The Cullen Clan was pristine as I wondered which Abercrombie & Fitch store they pulled all these model-actors from. They all looked just too cool and perfect. The beginning dialogue threw around a lot of terms I was unfamiliar with but even I wasn’t left stumped as the movie answered every question with a worthy explanation. There were just a couple confusing things like what Volturi was but I figured that would come later on in the film – and it did. The audience around me chuckled here and there as I’m sure seeing what they’ve read before in the books tickled their fancy as each moment materialized from just words to actual scenes in the movie. “I was born to be a vampire.” Bella came into her own as she recovered into her new self. “Done already?” was jokingly asked by Emmett Cullen (Kellan Lutz) after Bella and Edward’s relationship scenes were quickly ran through. I think they spent enough time to get the point across but not too long to alienate the rest of the audience that doesn’t care much for the love story that has continued over 5 movies. The beginning was a mix of a refresher on what happened in Part 1 and the lovey dovey stuff backed by the movie’s very evident soundtrack. Download The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 Before you know it, the characters are on a search for witnesses that takes you around the world and introduces you to a slew of new characters. Amazingly enough, the movie gave each witness their own specific characteristics so you could follow along and not lose track of any of them. From the element-wielding Benjamin played by Rami Malek to the electrifying Kate (Casey LaBow) and scantly-clad Amazonians Senna (Tracey Heggins) and Zafrina (Judith Shekoni) who somehow never got cold in the snow while everyone else wore winter clothing (I know I know, they’re vampires – but they’re Amazonian vampires damnit.). They each got their moment to take center stage and everyone seemed to fit their roles perfectly. The movie does have its sappy and corny parts – especially in the middle – but the movie sets up this ominous feeling of the imminent battle that keeps you on the edge of your seat and waiting for more; wanting more. The scenes of the bad vampires were kinda lame but the filmmakers did a decent job exposing the audience to the perils that the group of good guys had to face. Dakota Fanning as Jane and her brother Alec (Cameron Bright) were the centerpieces of the villains right behind the leader, Aro of course. Michael Sheen did an amazing job playing this somewhat campy character – his jarring laughs were great and his presense was both eeire and dismissive. Basically a coward with power. I wish they just put a little more emphasis on the bad side so the audience would have more invested in the final showdown. Combine that with the extra warewolves they just glossed over who were also present at the final battle. Those discrepancies aside, everything else was really good. The acting, the special effects, the music, the story, etc. etc. Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 is a terrific fantasy movie. It’s not just for tweens or confused middle-aged women. It has an easy to follow story and contains vampires that don’t just sparkle and big-ass warewolves. The action in the end is remarkable and going to be talked about for weeks. It’s incredibly violent and I can’t believe they got away with a PG-13 rating. Some of the younger audience members might have nightmares – it’s worse than some war movies. I’m not going to lie – I was entertained. Am I going to go back and watch all the previous movies and/or read the books? No. But I do wanna be a vampire.
