When you buy a digital scale you want to be sure you will get an accurate performance. But performance for a digital scale can be a subjective term. This is because a digital scale will have a capacity range and it must give a great performance over its entire capacity range. So when it is measuring objects with little weight at the low end of its range it must have the same accuracy levels as it does in mid range and also the same accuracy levels when it weighs heavy objects near the top of its range. Now the method by which a digital scale measures weight is one that uses a strain gauge to measure how much a metal component is bent when it undergoes stress caused by the weight of the object on the scale's platform. For the scale to give an accurate reading across the entire range of its weighing capacity the amount of strain cause must directly correspond to the weight reading at all times. This is only possible if the quality of the metal component is very high. If there are impurities or fluctuation in quality for some other reason then the amount of strain caused will not be uniform. So what you need is a very high grade refined material for the metal component that bends so that it will give a consistent performance that is also durable. And such a material is going to be more expensive than a very similar material but that is not as refined. Quality load cells will use the more expensive material because they cannot compromise on the accuracy throughout the capacity range of the scale. And once they do have a quality component in place the accuracy and durability of the digital scale such as a floor scale is assured as far as the quality of the load cell is concerned. Of course the quality metal component needs to be accompanied by other quality components because the failure of any one component does not perform the scale will not perform.
