Many years ago, as a child, my single mother took me to an outdoor concert featuring the band 'Chicago'. This was in the early nineties. It wasn't my first rock concert, but it was still a revelation. I'd never seen a band that featured a horn section so prominently. I was enthralled. After the show, my older brother spent the car ride home playing air drums. All I could do was lie down in the back of the station wagon and replay that tinny, staccato sound over and over again in my head. I expressed an interest in taking trumpet lessons. My mother was very supportive of my interest in music; however, because she had been told that all music instruction must begin with the piano, I was given piano lessons at the local YMCA. Then, my mom changed jobs and we were forced to move. I didn't fit in at my new high school, although I did make a connection with a girl. Still, I was a misfit. There were a lot of trumpet, tuba, and French horn players at my new school, but none of them liked me. Instead, they singled me out for bullying. I sought out trumpet lessons, but was disappointed to learn that the premier music school in town was the school that my bullies attended. My mom tried to talk me into going back to the YMCA, but I knew that wasn't good enough. I looked online and found http://trumpetlessons.com. Mr. Droste became my mentor. His website is full of information that can help aspiring musicians of any level reach their goals. This includes a selection of trumpet method books at http://www.trumpetstudio.com/page0/page15/index.html. These books provided me with the basics that I needed to become an expert trumpet player. Some of the methodology wasn't traditional, so I was skeptical at first. Then, when I realized what I had been taught, I was hooked. I knew that I could impress the new girl in my life, and earn the respect of my bullies. Even with the trumpet lessons from http://trumpetlessons.com, I still had a long road to go. At one point, even my new girlfriend doubted me. In fact, my lowest moment came at a community wide music recital. I was nervous entering the contest, but, I knew how much I had learned from the Trumpet Method Books at http://www.trumpetstudio.com/page0/page15/index.html. My bullies were there, and they did very well. When it came my turn to show my talents, I nervously looked around the stage and reached that low point at which I even doubted my ability. As I looked out at the audience, however, to my relief, there stood my girlfriend next to my mom and brother. It was like coming full circle. I was onstage playing the same staccato, tinny sounds that I'd heard as a child. After my triumphant stage appearance, my mom and girlfriend came running onto the stage to greet me. Mu mouth was sore, and I was tired after such a performance, but I didn't mind their hugs. The pain was worth it. Even better, my one-time, most hateful bully came to congratulate me. To say that my triumph was “golden” is certainly an understatement. I have continued my trumpet enthusiasm as an avocation, and am now playing with a local band. I continue to learn on my own, but I know that my great start came from http://trumpetlessons.com Trumpet Lessons, Trumpet Method Books
