The picturesque landscape of the Valley of Flowers National Park goes together along with the rugged mountain of Nanda Devi National Park situated in the eastern direction. Together cover a transition zone between the mountain ranges of the Zanskar and Great Himalaya. The park covers an area of 87.50 km ². Both parks are included in the Book of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve (223.674 ha) that is surrounded by a buffer zone (5,148.57 km ²). This Reserve is in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO since 2004. This National Park is tucked in the high altitude of mighty Indian Himalayas has been one of the favorite destination for mountaineers and botanists in literature for over a century and in Hindu religion for much longer. Here in this gorge you will find number of beautiful flowers of different colors, different shades of colors assuming over time. It was affirmed a national park in 1982 and is now a World Heritage Site. People think it was inhabited by fairies. Here in this gorge you will find flowers like Brahmakamal, blue poppy and the Cobra Lily. It is a much sought refuge for flower lovers, botanists and hikers. This National Park is looked after and maintained by Uttarakhand State Forestry Department, the national Ministry of Environment and Forests, India. There is no agreement in the national park and grazing in the area has been banned since 1983. Before, when grazing is allowed to view that grazing animals were introducing invasive weeds in the Valley of Flowers. You can visit here only during the summer and rainy when the flower blooms make the whole place like a paradise. Thus from June to October are the best time to visit here. Being an interior valley of the Himalayas, Nanda Devi basin has a characteristic microclimate. The conditions are generally dry with low annual rainfall, but heavy monsoon rains in late June to early September. Fog and low clouds during monsoon prevailing keeps the soil moist, so the vegetation is more lush than usual in the Himalayan valleys indoor dryer. From mid-April to June, are moderate to cool temperatures (19 ° C maximum). The valley has microclimate being enclosed valley of the Himalayas it is protected from the brunt of the southwest summer monsoon of Great Himalayas. As you go inside you might come across diverse type of weather in some places you will find dense fog and rain, sunny weather in some places. This happens only during summer monsoon. After October the whole place is covered with white layer of snow till March. Getting to the Valley of Flowers requires you to trek of about 17 km (10.5 miles). You have trek from Joshimath which is well connected from Haridwar and Dehradun, both about 270 km (168 miles) from Joshimath. The road is good and it is not bumpy. And if you are starting from Delhi then take a train or you can take bus and from here you travel by bus to Govindghat ,which is 16 km from Badrinath one of the holy places of Hindus. From Govindghat you have to go to Joshimath. And from here you need to trek for 17 kms and you will be in the magical paradise about which you have read in story books.
