I wonder how many children will wake up filled with excitement on Christmas morning this year wondering if Santa has left Model trains under the tree. Thinking about Model trains takes me back a few years, I can still remember the year when Santa left me model railways as my main Christmas present. I had one of the finest Model trains in production it was an ‘oo’ gauge replica of the legendary Flying Scotsman and I loved that train. It came with a number of carriages and I would spend hour after hour playing with the train watching the loco speed around the track. Even now, all these years later the thought of Model trains still fills me with excitement and that’s all part of their charm. Children adore Model trains, I know I did when I was a small child and I added to my collection of model railways over a period of time. Whenever it was my birthday or Christmas came around once more I’d ask for Model trains to add to my collection. Plus I started to get into the design of the track layout more and more as I grew older, we put the model railways up into the loft area and I created an authentic looking layout for the Model trains to chug around on. You can escape into a fantasy world with Model trains and create any setting that you like - just talking about train sets puts a huge smile on my face. There’s more choice with Model trains today, when I was a smile child you were a little bit limited by the options you had for Model railways. Today a growing number of manufacturers produce Model trains, classic favourites from Hornby are still popular but there are countless other manufacturers as well. Model trains are a brilliant gift to hand to a child at Christmas and they’re fabulous for family bonding. You can build Model railways with your kids and have hours of fun playing with the train together. I get a little nostalgic when I dip into my memory bank and think about the trains I used to have as a child, I wonder if my mum still keep my train set or knows what happened to it?
