Door, just a four alphabet word that refers to the structure installed at every, well, most of the entrances you pass through. For me also it used to mean the same. Used to? If this is what strikes your mind when you read this line, there’s no mistake in my sentence I meant “used to”. My perception of the door changed when one day while wasting my time on the internet I just typed this four alphabet word in the Wikipedia search and boom! There’s a whole history connected to doors. Well you need to research on other sites also for getting deep knowledge on the subject. Here I will try to summarize what actually took me by surprise. Door is for important people This thing came to strike me hardest of all the others. In the ancient times to hold the key for the doors or to have the right to enter a door has a status value in the society. Like your mother (in most families, fathers can’t afford to defy them) hold the key of the house, it shows her value and status in your family. The same way it was an honor to hold the key for the doors. They were often related symbolically to the ritual endowments and holding key of these doors made people authorities of the society and social bearings. Not only in the matter of powers but doors find their place in the arts, literature and other forms of creation in metamorphic manner. History As said above the doors were connected to the arts and creations of the society they actively became the signs of the cultures and traditions. The dynasties and ruling authorities stared engraving their traditions and cultures on the doors. Especially on the interior doors that portrayed the creations of the artist on their panels and frames. You can avail the view of these kind of carvings at most of the heritage sites of the world be it Hampi stone door, the doors of the Mughal Empires , the beautiful painted doors of the western cultures or the magnificent doors of the fords and palaces. They used to be the guardians as well as the status showcases of the societies. During the civil war era and the revolution wars the door architecture took a turning point. From there on the doors started to be the matter of engineering concern and new ways were worked out to make them stronger and reliable. What’s next! In the coming future we may not witness any kind of revolution in the door manufacturing but what can expect them to get intelligent. Yes if your gadgets can get intelligent then why not your door? With the advent of new materials that are even thinner than a paper but stronger than steel what you think doors will look like? There is always history related to everything and there is a reason for that. Because only a past can have a future, things that drift along with time can only get better! Døre a simple word but has a greater meaning. Your indvendige døre I mean interior doors were once the canvas of histories.
