Floor sanding is a wooden floor restorative process done before applying protective coating, polish or colours to the floor. Sanding will scrub off the top layer to expose the wooden layers underneath. Well maintained wooden floors help in temperature regulation and keep rooms warm in winter. If your wooden floor is due on maintenance and you want to give it a fresh look by sanding it yourself, then a few tips from a reputed floor sanding company can be of great help. Prerequisites for sanding Remember that sanding a wooden floor is just like sanding any other wooden surface. You will need a sander. Most commonly used sanding machines are drum sanders which are heavy and powerful. Buying them for one time use is not feasible but finding them on rental basis is viable. You will need sandpapers in different grits from the coarse to the fine, to run at least a couple of times. The number of papers required will depend on the area of your floor. Fixing the sandpaper in place on the machine may not be easy. So ask the rental guys to do it the first time while you observe how it is done. Don’t forget dust masks and safety glasses. Having a vacuum machine at hand is another prerequisite. Before you begin, screen all areas that can allow dust settlement. Using sanders Sanders are powerful machines and hence their use requires the right application of strength and body weight. These machines can hurt you. So learning from an experienced user can be useful. One tip is not to try lifting the sander. The direction of sanding should be against that of drum motion and use just the weight of the sander but not your body weight.. Nails and loose floorboards can damage the sander drum or belt. They can also hurt you. As you proceed with sanding, finer papers have to be used. If you have not used a sander before, it is suggested that you avail the assistance of an organization for Floor Sanding Advice in London.
