Personalized buttons go that extra mile and allow the button wearer to create something that is an even more personal statement. You sign in or create an account, then go through a sort of wizard to create your buttons. The exact particulars of what can and cannot be designed will differ depending on the exact particulars of the service used. Some will simply allow you to customize text next to or on top of their selection of pictures. Others may allow you to upload your own images as well and still others give you complete and total control over the design of the button, perhaps even including the button's shape. Once your design is complete, simply select the number you want and place your order. After paying, it's just a matter of waiting for the buttons to arrive. Creating Your Own Of course, to get a truly and totally personalized button, you have to roll up your sleeves and create your own. While there are many techniques for creating your own buttons, below is one that is fairly simple. The first step in creating your own buttons is to gather the supplies you need. You will want bottle caps, scissors, paper or pictures of what you want on your button, markers if you plan on writing on your buttons, white craft glue, clear nail polish, a hot glue gun and a safety pin. First you will want to trim the edges of the bottle caps and remove the plastic liner inside the bottle cap. You want them to be flat. If you are using beer bottle caps, you can skip this step. Optionally, you can use flat plastic disks instead. Next, design or select the image you want on your button. Cut out the picture, making sure that it fits on the inset side of the bottle cap or size it to fit the plastic disk. Place some of the white craft glue on the inset side of the cap or on the disk and smear it around. Next place your image and let it dry, then coat it with some clear nail polish to prevent the image from getting damaged or fading from everyday use. Next, take your hot glue gun and put a dollop of hot glue on the back of the bottle cap or disk. Place the safety pin, and let it dry. Once it's dry, you are done. You can use this process to make as many personalized buttons as you want, and you can make each one unique. If you are having trouble finding plastic disks, check your local crafting supply store. Poker chips also make a great button backing if you can't find plastic disks elsewhere, though if you use poker chips it would be better to use the lightweight, plastic ones rather than the heavier clay poker chips.
