Overview : The successful defense against a charge of discrimination begins with an objective description of the position you want to fill, along with the education, skills, certificates or licenses necessary for the job. This webinar will start by discussing the major federal employment statutes that may affect your hiring decisions. Laws such as Title VII, Civil Rights Act of 1991, Equal Pay Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Immigration Reform and Control Act, American with Disabilities Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act will be reviewed as it relates to your hiring practice.

The importance of having a written job description for every position in the organization will be discussed. Job descriptions are the first documents that lawyers demand to see and courts order you to produce in an employment lawsuit. This workshop will show how job descriptions are vital to a litigation-proof human resources department and review how to create a job description to defend against discrimination charges. The workshop will cover how to lower your hiring costs. Techniques such as staffing assessments, cost-effective advertising, succession planning, and using a temp agency are just a few initiatives that will be covered to control your hiring costs. Applicants are advised not to rely solely on classified ads. Hiring companies should following that same advice. This workshop will cover some innovative approaches (or best practices) used by other organizations to recruit quality candidates.
