Lets face it. Digital downloads are becoming more and more popular these days, but is it a good thing? Looking at it as it stands now It seems to be a bit rushed. It works well for smaller downloads for sure. Music, comic books, books in general, but what about video games? What exactly is so good about digital downloads as far as video games? Well, to answer that the files are quite dramatically big. Anywhere between a small game (500MB) to a full game (up to 20GB) so far. While it is cool to download full games on to a console it can take forever depending on your connection. Generally I'm going to say that not everyone has a fast internet connection even though the more popular video games are played competitively online. Doesn't that make up a smaller percentage of people that play for competition? Maybe so. With companies that come out with full game downloads, it is rather cool. The few big gripes may be minor, but the issue with cloud storage and internet connection speeds doesn't make this a viable option for many of todays standards. A nice internet connection costs about $40 a month and cloud storage over physical discs is something that I can't get over. A cloud can never really be 100% secure and you have download limits on what you buy as well. Like I said though, minor gripes. Digital downloads seem to have a strong place for games eventually. It just seems to be too much too quick. Consumers need to keep up with the massive amounts of data upon downloading. With my kind of connection, it took me about 1 day and 14 hours to download an 8GB game. I do have a slower connection, but it is $30 for my DSL. While I'm not against digital downloads in any way. Cloud storage just can't be done for secure reasons. If anything you should always have the option to save what you download on to an external hard drive. I'm sure this is where everything is going. There are many options to choose from for storage. Having just one source for storage is never a good idea. The advantages and disadvantages are quite clear. Digital downloads are here to stay as it is the future way of things. Going out to buy a game at a video game store is more of a headache where as downloading a digital copy allows for you to play the game almost immediately when you have a fast connection. Hard copies such as discs and external storage devices have a place and always will. Cloud Storage will just be another option for storage space, but dealing with clouds seem to not be as trustworthy unless you go through a company that will surely back up your games. Perhaps they can guarantee that if anything was to ever happen to your data then they'll give you a free download of the games you bought before. blockbuster games video game store video game deals popular video games top xbox games
