Does This Type of Footwear Suit Your Style?

Business,Travel & Tourism
This type of shoe was originally invented by World War 2 soldiers in the North Africa campaign against the German troops.

They found that their boots were ill equipped to shield feet from the hot Saharan sands. The men started sticking thick bits of rubber to the soles of their footwear to stop the heat creeping through their soles.

After the war the men still kept wearing this footwear when on nights out when they were back in England.

The 1950s saw a big upsurge in the trend of creepers shoes when the teddy boys chose them as their preferred footwear. Since then this shoe style has never been out of fashion because of the punk and garage music era.

The punk era in the 1980s was a time of great rebellion in clothing and footwear styles, just like the sixties when men started wearing their hair longer. Originally punk fashion clothes were home-made, but the clothing industry quickly caught on and even some Paris fashion houses started creating outfits with punk elements incorporated in them.

Many T-shirts had extremely offensive images printed on them. There was a great use of the safety pin to keep torn clothes together and spiked jewellery also came into fashion. Even hairstyles were deliberately messy and often unnatural colours, such as red and electric blue were used to dye hair.

The creepers are not the most stylish shoes and most people would not even think of wearing this type of footwear. It is a niche market, catering for people who do not want to conform to the norm.

What do these shoes look like? They are basically either looking like slippers with a very thick sole, or a trainer with a similar sole. The reason they are still in fashion is that some huge celebrities have been seen wearing this type of shoe in public or when performing on stage.

The shoes are generally comfortable, as long as you do not go for a very high wedge style sole. The thicker the sole, the more rigid th8is footwear feels as it is not able to bend like thinner soled shoes do. These shoes are ideal for people who are not very tall and cannot bear to walk in high heels all the time. This style s a good daytime alternative.

Manufacturers will say that this footwear can be worn at any occasion. This might be true if a more relaxed dress code is adopted, for instance in the work place. However, you would not normally wear these shoes to the Queen’s garden party at Buckingham Palace.

This footwear comes in all kinds of colours, leopard skin, zebra stripes, but for the more conservative among us they can also be purchased in plain black so that they can be teamed up with a suit for a casual smart look. There are many well-known high street shops that stock a variety of creeper styles to choose from, but for ease of shopping you might want to go on the internet, as there is a much wider choice there.

Why not have a look at our site so you can make an informed choice of the type of creeper shoes you want to purchase at http://www.creepers.uk.com/
