Women and Clay Pot Making in Tanzania

Travel & Tourism
The Chagga people are mountain people who live in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, and - in northern Tanzania. It was once believed Sheuta and Ancient Creator God, which is formed by the human race as a potter creates clay vessels.

Even to this day, people talk about the pot-making is similar to the living of a woman's womb. Tanzanian villages, usually women folk potters. This profession is traditionally passed down from mother to daughter. Usually men are not participating in this trade.

Clay is mined from the earth in large clumps, using the traditional hoe, it's back breaking work. These large pieces of clay into the house and broken into smaller pieces, add water to the clay more flexible to work with. Consistency should be easy to work with - very careful not to make it too wet. This is achieved by pummeling clay and covered. Formed a ball of clay, and then work quickly, turning and working the clay hand, fingers, and palm trees, constantly improving container rhythmic way, this process will be completed surprisingly quickly. When you finish the time spent in the details, the Potters labeling their pots, they are different. Larger pots are made from long sausage-shaped coils and the coils are wound around and around the pot. Sides are smoothed with water to remove the corrugated effect. Many homeowners tools are used in this process, scrapers, knives twigs and bits of wood.

Then put the pot in the shade to dry, which can take up to four days in larger pots. Pots fired by covering wood and dried banana tree fragments of pots, half relieved, half smoke, the process takes an hour or two.

When the fire died down pots are carefully removed from the ashes, but it is still very hot. They are rubbed with leaves, give them a distinct color and stamp. Many of these pots are used to cook over an open fire.

Tanzania is a peaceful paradise for tourists, boasting, not tribalism and nation, where hospitality is a tradition. The attention organizations and even a few tour operators offer these services. Tanzanian culture is really gentle and peace loving.

Cultural Tours in a new wave begins in Arusha - the country's north. There is a lot of tourists want to see over and people are gyvunu.Kultura destination, they are done in Tanzania so special. No plastic, dull, organized cultural experience offered by the lukewarm attempt to get more business, but real life experience in Tanzania.

A great way to experience it is to spend a few days in town or village from the hotel. To stop, Tanzania, or ex-pat home and spend some time getting to know how life works in Tanzania. Many people are starting to do it and then stay in this home-based organizing safaris. To coordinate the safari in Arusha, is it cheaper, safer and offers more flexibility. More time to spend in Tanzania and relatively low cost.

These women are very talented at what they do, even though all the efforts and hard work
