Going away on holiday can be a lot of fun but it’s not always easy to figure out what to do with your pets. You really don’t have too many options. You could ask a friend or relative to look in and feed them from time to time - not ideal because your dogs are home alone all day. You could hire a house sitter – better than the first option but not ideal either – unless you can find someone that you can completely trust. The third option is to make use of dog boarding kennels – probably one of the most popular options. After all, you can at least rest assured that your pet will be taken care of properly. Should you be sending your pet to any of the boarding kennels Brisbane, you will need to make sure that you should check the following: 1) That all your dog’s inoculations are up to date - check with the kennel but chances are that you will also have to get your dog to the vet before they go. You may be asked to provide proof that the dog’s inoculations are up to date. This is important for your dog as there is a small chance that they could contract something like kennel cough should they not have had their shots. 2) Check if you are allowed to take a favourite toy or blanket with. If so, do not inundate the kennel with tons of toys – just a well-chosen one here or there will be sufficient. It might also be comforting to your dog, if you are allowed to, to take his blanket with as well. Just make sure that it is clean and clear of fleas. 3) Check with the kennel whether or not they have play time with the dogs and how long they are allowed for exercise every day. This is very important if you want your dog to be comfortable. Most kennels today though do believe in the importance of play time and exercise. 4) Notify the kennel of any health problems that your dog has and also of any possible bad behaviour that they may indulge in. If your dog is pretty aggressive when it comes to other dogs, they need to know this – this does not mean that they will not still take in your dog but will mean that your dog will not be left to play with others making sure that you don’t come back to massive vet bills. 5) The kennels should also be made aware of any special dietary requirements upfront and be given contact numbers for you and your vet. Overall, boarding your dog is probably the kindest way to deal with them when you go away, as long as you approach it properly.
