The city sold a lien on Vulpis’ home to a private investor, who secured an interest in the property.     <p>  According to the NBC story, Vulpis was able to save his home with the help of an attorney who helped him settle with the investor. If Vulpis were unable to reach a settlement, he could have filed for a bankruptcy, which would have generated an automatic stay, preventing his lenders from foreclosure.
