Great India

Travel & Tourism
Lying on the minor Indian tectonic plate which is a part of Indo-Australia Plate, India consists of Indian subcontinent located north of the equator. With its coastline as long as 7,517 kilometers or 4,700 miles, the coastline is comprised of sandy beaches, rugged shores as well as cliffs. India has two major rivers, the Ganges and the Brahmaputra, which are originated from the Himalaya Mountains. Both of the rivers end in Bengal Bay. India has a lot of other tributaries and some of whose gradients are very low leading to heavy floods.

India has a population of approximately 1,210,193,422 people and with this figure, India ranks second as the most densely populated country in the world. Hinduism is India’s major religion with 80.5% adherents, which is then followed by Islam adherents as many as 13.4%, Christianity with 2.3% and the rest is Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism. As a non-Muslim country, India has a large population of Muslim, which ranks the third in the world’s Muslim population.

For longer than 45 centuries, the history of Indian culture has existed and the diversity of religions is among other things the result of the long history journey. On the other hand, strict social hierarchy marks the traditional Indian society. Social stratification is heavily embodied in the Indian caste system. The values of traditional Indian family are very highly valued in spite of modernization in the country’s many sectors.

The country has two major languages mainly spoken by its people. Around 74% of the entire population speaks Indo-Aryan and the rest of the population speaks Dravidian, Austro-Asiatic, and Tibeto-Burman. Extensively used as the language for administration and business, English is referred to as ‘a subsidiary official language’, which is essential in education in particular as a higher education medium language. Colorful festivals, traditional cultures and all the diversities of India are challenging for anyone who visit India.

Being one of Asia’s gems, India has so many nice places to visit that it is intriguingly difficult to choose which one should be visited first. Nonetheless, there are some destinations in India that never lose their popularity. They are extremely rich in cultural exoticism and historical stories.

Almost all first time visitors to India would visit Delhi, which is the capital city of India. Although the new visitors find Delhi surprisingly chaotic, those who can bear it will find the excitement that India has to offer. Delhi is primarily popular for its mesmerizing mosques, historical forts and monuments remnants from the Mughal that used to colonize the city. These buildings are mostly established in marvelously landscaped gardens, ideal for unwinding.

The other city that has the splendor of royal atmosphere in India is Udaipur. Udaipur is famous for its palaces and lakes, which give visitors the romantic ambiance.

For those seeking romance while taking pleasure in the eastern environment, Jaisalmer would probably the perfect place to visit. People refer to Jaisalmer as resembling places in the fables of Arabian Nights. The spectacular city of sandstone rises majestically out of Rajasthan desert’s sand dune. Travelers will also be able to see the unique Jaisalmer Desert Festival that is held annually. Exactly in the center of the desert, there are several incredibly romantic hotels from which visitors can also try the famed camel safari.

Undoubtedly, the Taj Mahal – located in Agra – is one of India’s most popular attractions. This is the most iconic monument in India and travelers can learn the history behind the establishment of this magnificent building.

The other attractive place in India is Varanasi. It is a very unique city whose peculiarity no other place in the world beat. Once a traveler sets foot there, mystical atmosphere pervades the air. This holy place has its rituals in the open air along the riverside’s ghats. Local people would use the ghats for many of their daily activities such as taking a bath, washing up, and even burning the bodies that parish.

India is rich in temples and the perfect place to see them is in Madurai. In Madurai, there is Meenakshi Temple, which is the most imposing and significant temple in South India. One can’t have seen other temples overlooking Meenakshi Temple. This historical city has been in its establishment for over 40 centuries and up until the present day, it remains a key center for learning the culture of Tamil. Every April, there is a re-enactment of God and Goddess’ wedding in this city.

Need a serene and relaxing place in India? Kerala backwaters should be the ideal place for the purpose. It has various kinds of wildlife, lush landscape, and villages lining the backwaters, making it feel like a cruise to an unspoiled world. Visitors on the boat will have an opportunity to enjoy the genuine Indian food that is cooked freshly for the tourists.
