There is more to getting physically fit than simply exercising every once in a while. Everyone thinks "I want to get fit" and "I want to be healthier" every once in a while. If you truly want to get fit you need to make a commitment to a better level of overall health. You can't get fit if you don't also have a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet. Obviously those topics are best left for another time. Here are some hints that will help you get started on your fitness routine.

Work your entire body. Do not listen to anyone who tells you that you only have to work on the areas of your body that you do not like. If you really want to be fit you will need to put together a fitness routine that works your whole body inside and out. Endurance training, cardiovascular training and strength training are all important. You will need to exercise all of your muscle systems if you want your body to get truly healthy. Working just a few target areas could actually beef up those areas which will leave you feeling bulkier than ever!

Remember that fat cells weigh less than muscle cells. This is very important to remember if weight loss is a major goal.

When you work out and eat a balanced diet you will probably shed inches but you might not shed many pounds. This is because your fat cells are shrinking while your muscles are increasing and getting stronger. Pay attention to your measurements as you work on your fitness. It is likely that the numbers you see on the scale won't change very much but that your clothing size will change a lot. Keep these facts in mind so that you don't let yourself get discouraged or disappointed by the apparent lack of success after all of your hard work.

Play Wii Fit! Whether or not you want to believe it, this game is a godsend for people just starting out on the road to fitness. This program allows you to work out in the privacy of your own home. It also teaches you some basic maneuvers so that, if you do decide to move to a public space to do your workout, you will have some knowledge under your belt. Lots of people shy away from working out in public because they are afraid of looking foolish. Using Wii Fit helps you work around this problem.

Never before has it been so easy to get a full workout in your own home. Even if Wii Fit is not your favorite game there are plenty of other fitness games that work on the Wii system and with the Wii balance board.

It is easier for a person to achieve real physical fitness--even if the idea of doing so seems intimidating. As long as you are diligent and patient there is no reason you shouldn't be able to get fit.
