Mobile Application Development is a competitive market that changes every day. Those that make the money are those that see a need coming up and fulfill it. At Moro Interactive we feel that there are certain trends starting for 2012 and we are going to cover a few of them in detail. Social Networking is simply a booming category for mobile app development. These social networks are changing and evolving as more and more people start to use them. The applications are even starting to mix in third party programs to fill more needs and create greater interest in their product. Social Networking seems to quickly evolve into something else altogether but only the future can tell what that may be. More and more users are starting to use their phones to access search engines and perform searches. Search engines are working hard to further the mobile technology that they use and be the first to create an environment where users can simply type something in the search bar and quickly finish their task. Many of these searches are done with a need in mind and can be subject to a time frame so the smoother the process works and the more efficient the UI the more people will use it. Applications that mold themselves according to your personal interests are quickly becoming a hit. Applications use your personal and search information to learn about user’s preferences, interests, activities, and priorities. This helps them to proactively serve an individual the most appropriate content, product, or service with efficiency. Top End devices are starting to use a function referred to as Object Recognition or OR for short. This feature provides and easy to use interface that will allow the mobile device to recognize an object and use that information to meet your needs. Apps will start to be molded around this function and soon we will start to see these capabilities furthered even more. Mobile Banking has taken the population by surprise. A very large portion of users who changed to banks that support mobile banking and 60% of them stated that the mobile option was the primary cause. The statement right now is that if you are a bank and are not looking to push out mobile banking in 2012, you had best try for 2013 because if you don’t follow this trend you may not be able to keep up. In today’s world convenience is key and consumers much prefer the ease that comes with mobile banking versus the paper and location based system we have now. Cloud computing is quickly becoming a highly desired function. Some of the biggest selling points for companies like and now windows are that the cloud connects your related devices ranging from computers to smartphones. Other providers and even search engines are starting to take the hint and using the cloud to enhance their own products. Cloud computing offers developers an opportunity that simply cannot be passed up and we should see an increase in apps that use this wondrous function. Location is the next game changer. In today’s mobile devices it is common to have numerous sensors to use for various needs. One of these sensors is used for Geolocation. The ability for applications to use your location to trigger events or even adds for local deals and discounts are quickly becoming a reality. 2012 should hold some extremely interesting uses of geolocation. When it comes to monetizing apps things can get tricky. App store providers such as Apple and Google take a cut per purchase so the natural movement is to enable your apps to generate money AFTER they have been purchased. Ads are one way to do this but the fact is that many people will not use an app if it contains ads. It will be interesting to see how developers overcome this. Some have already created solutions and are moving forward but it will be a never ending scramble to see who will be at the top. These are just a few trends that we will be seeing in the coming year. Mobile Application Development is a growing field and as more users get smartphones and become “connected” this will only continue to grow. At Moro Interactive, every day we make ideas a reality. The field of app development is a constantly changing thing and there is no way to know how it is going to progress. App development is the future and we will be there.
