Rustic shed plans will give you the basics on building the structure you want to have in your backyard. However, what will complete the overall rustic look of your shed will be the materials that you'll choose for its basic components, aside from the accessories and details. The siding of your shed is one of these important elements. You need to choose the right material for the sides of your shed to achieve the design that you want. You can still go to lumberyards for your timber. But these days, you can already have a wide range of options for shed sidings in home improvement stores. You can find natural wooden boards or strong vinyl sheets finished like natural timber. Horizontal planks of different widths are popular materials for rustic sidings. Since the planks do not line up with each other, the unpolished look is achieved. Most builders leave the planks unpainted - only stained or sanded, at the most - to emphasize the natural texture and grain of the wood. To reinforce the corners, vertical trim boards are placed over the edges of the horizontal planks. The board-and-batten design that is common in North American homes' exterior walls is also a popular choice to execute rustic shed plans. This design features vertical wide boards, usually about 6 to 8 inches in width. The gaps between boards are covered with wooden strips or battens that are about 2 to 3 inches in width. Similar to the horizontal plank design, the board-and-batten design has its corners covered with vertical trim boards also. This whole design gives the country feel that you might want for your shed. If you want the log cabin design, you can achieve this with the log lap siding. It is similar to the horizontal planks, except that each piece retains the round face of the log. The upper and lower portion of each piece of timber is trimmed so that they will all fit perfectly when placed one on top of the other. This is actually one of the classic rustic designs for homes, sheds, and other structures. These days, vinyl sidings are available in various designs that make them look like natural wood. Many of these sidings are also easier to install than real wood. This is why they are the usual materials used for the exterior walls of DIY sheds. It is also cheaper and easier to maintain than timber and timber products. These are the common types of materials you'll see in the market today. Each type of siding has its own advantages and disadvantages. The best way to choose which would be best for your rustic shed is to note its location, your preferences, the overall design that you want, and even your budget. ?
