When it comes to getting to or from an airport, there are various potential solutions, each as bad as the next. Everyone loves a holiday, but the bits in between – the process of actually getting there and back again – cause such endless hardship that you often need a second holiday to get over them. Walking around a busy train station while both you and the rest of your group are tired, irritable, and excited or nervous about the upcoming flights and holiday is, with the best will in the world, not the best of times. The risk of losing an item of luggage, a child, or both is multiplied for each change you encounter and, depending on where you are travelling from, this could be as many as five or six before you reach the airport. The alternatives which involve a more controlled environment are little better. Using your own car means using the long-term parking facilities. How exactly airport authorities developed this scam is unknown, but they somehow contrive to charge you for using this service and then tell you that the security of your car is your own responsibility. At the front, they hang a huge sign which declares that this is the long-term parking area, where vehicle owners will not notice that their car has been broken into or stolen until they return some two weeks hence. Using minibus hire with a driver means that you are not leaving a vehicle behind for you to be robbed twice (once by the car thief and once by the airport by charging you a fortune for the privilege of having your car stolen). You also have a comfortable, controlled environment to comfortably keep all children and luggage safe and in one place with no connections.
