If you have booked a stay in a cheap hotel in London this summer, it is well worth researching the various exhibitions being staged at the capital's museums. From in-depth studies of Shakespeare to amazing art shows, there is something to interest everyone. Like a lot of the city's museums and galleries, many of these exhibitions can be explored without paying a penny, while some have a small charge. So, even if you are planning a budget break, you should still be able to include one - or several! - in your itinerary. Art The capital's top exhibitions can broadly be divided into two categories: art and science. Looking at art first, there are a few options that really stand out, including David Nash at Kew. You may be familiar with Nash's work already, as the British artist is particularly well known for his large wooden sculptures. This summer - and, indeed, until April next year - you can head to Kew Gardens to view a wide variety of his works. These will include some existing favourites, such as Wooden Boulder, as well as new pieces. Indeed, Nash is currently working on his 'wood quarry' project, which will showcase works fashioned out of trees at the end of their natural life. These items are slated to be added to the display - which will also feature drawings and films - in October 2012. Alternatively, if you're a keen literature lover, a visit to Shakespeare: Staging the World at the British Museum is a must. However, for adults it does cost £14 to enter and it is wise to book your tickets ahead of time, so you should do a little advance planning if you want to attend. This unique exhibition features texts, maps, medals, drawings, paintings and more to piece together the life of London as a world city in the early 1600s. It uses Shakespeare's plays for insights, and also examines how the Bard helped the country to forge a national identity, as well as the role the playhouse took in all this. Science If you fancy exploring a little of the world of science, Superhuman (July 17th to October 16th) at the Wellcome Collection will not disappoint. Looking at the history - and future - of how humans have tried to improve themselves physically, this exhibition examines what actually constitutes enhancements, fantasies of what they could involve and artefacts from as early as the Egyptian period. Everything from glasses and sex aids to prosthetics and false teeth are included, while the exhibition also looks at ideas for the future, including those that harness nanotechnology. Free to explore, it's an exhibition guaranteed to appeal to science lovers! Another great exhibition to head to is Codebreaker: Alan Turing's Life and Legacy, which is being held at the Science Museum from June 21st right through to June next year. This fascinating gallery looks at Turing's life and his vital role in World War II, which is believed to have shortened the conflict by years, and his influences on computing and mathematics that are still felt today. Among the most impressive sights is the groundbreaking Pilot ACE computer, designed by Turing himself, while you can also read personal accounts of the mathematician, whose life ended in tragedy when he committed suicide after being convicted of indecency in 1954.
