Black dresses and other dark dresses are used as symbols of aristocracy and power. Different colours are used by women in different times for different purposes. They can represent many things, and project many different perceptions in the mind of onlookers. The colour pink is associated with romance and sex. Women use this colour in their dresses not only because of its integral association with femininity but also because of its seductive nature in attracting the opposite sex. Similarly other colours also have different meanings, meanings that are not directly seen but only understood by the subconscious mind in a psychological point of view. The colour black which represented sadness and mourning in the past has now evolved in to a chic colour. Black dresses are frequently used by designers due to their increasing popularity in modern day fashion. Women’sdemands for the little black dress are increasing as they subconsciously understand its significance. It has a significance men cannot directly perceive. Men are affected by black dresses but without them directly knowing about it. They react to the black dressby raising the perceived rank of the women wearing them above that of others who are not wearing them. It is the same way in which they are psychologically attracted to the women who wear pink, also without knowing that it’s the colour affecting them. The elegance and stylishness in modern day black dresses play a role in not only the image perceived by men but also on the reactions of other women. The elegance in the dress gives them an immediate impression that the women wearing it is of an aristocratic family, and that the dress is of superior make even though not much effort would have been put in stitching it. They feel jealousy and hate, wishing that they too could be seen as someone of that calibre. The jealousy magnifies slowly into anger and causes a butterfly effect. The behaviour of the affected woman will bring out her lowly character traits and uplift those who wear black dresses even further. These are just some ways in which black dresses impacts on the subconscious of onlookers. Though some of them are negatively affected, it always gives a good impression on the wearer of the dresses. The impression given by dress is the most important factor here because the sole purpose of stylish and fashionable dressing by women is to bring out this expression.
