Almost every woman has worn the little Black Dresses. Even now, ladies can exert great flexibility if they own a little Black design since little black garments can be worn to offices as well as to informal events. They can wear this grand design in the morning with an overcoat to the office while they can wear the same to an evening party with some ornaments and accessories. Normally, this design is short and sleeveless. Deep neck cut is the hallmark of some little black attire while some have a closer cut around the neck almost fitted to the neck revealing less skin. Before the introduction of the little Black Dresses, the black was not worn due to the traditional concept of anything black was evil. In fact, black clothes were worn by widows for mourning for as long as two years after their beloved’s deaths. After two years, and for about nine months, they were allowed to wear dresses made with black silk. Only after this duration, they were allowed to wear black clothes with plain decoration and plain jewelry. During the period of World War I and the after years of it, women more often wore Black Dresses remembering their loved ones who sacrificed their lives for the war. Within this backdrop, Gabrielle Coco Chanel introduced the Little Black Dresses. The dress was first published with an image on the covers of the Vogue magazine in America. The introduction for the dress, noted that this garment was suitable for all women irrespective of their status. It was like a uniform for all the women. The dress was only designed to calf length and no fabulous designs embellished the dress as well. During the Great Depression that took the World by storm, the little Black Dress had their place intact. Hollywood film directors at that time, asked their heroines to wear the little Black Dress for practical reasons. The Technicolour techniques they used were not that complementary with dresses in other colours. Only the little black garments gave out the desirable picture perfect. Due to this reason they asked actresses to wear black garments for shooting sessions. Thereafter, the World War II erupted and rationing was imposed on cloths. Due to this, the little Black Dresses continued to have been in the main stream because to sew one, much cloth was not needed. The little Black Dresses are still enjoying grand style throughout the World gathering popularity with leaps and bounds. It is evidenced how much popularity it is in by the songs created for the dress. In 1996, Gavin Friday included a song about little Black Dress in his album called Shag Tobacco. In 2006, opening song of the Donnie Irish Album was about this dress. Chris Young sang another popular little Black Dress song in 2009. All these show how popular the garments in black are around the World.
