When I began writing my book a few years ago, I never dreamed it would take me to the places it has! After all, I was only jotting down my memoirs for posterity. I was no author. I'm a nurse. Granted, nurses do a lot of writing and documenting as it relates to our patients. I had numerous stories and experiences to write about, but writing a book was different. Wasn't it? My children, now grown, had never shown a great interest in my nursing career. I would try to share inspirational experiences with them. They were young at the time and they just didn't get it. I tried to entertain them with hysterically funny stories that had happened while working my 3-11 shift at the hospital. They didn't laugh. My humor evaded them. I eventually gave up trying to include them in my career journey. As the years passed, I kept a personal journal of my experiences... my trials and tribulations as well as my joys. I wrote down thoughts and inspirations, sometimes on pieces of scrap paper, so I wouldn't forget them. I had little notebooks filled with stories. I sometimes wondered why I was doing it. I wondered if there was a purpose because if there was, I sure didn't know it. One day I gathered all my scraps, my journals and my little notebooks together and decided they should be compiled. I had some time off and decided I would make use of it instead of watching TV all day. I sat down at my computer and began typing. And I typed and typed. When my husband asked me what I was doing, I told him I thought I was writing a book. He laughed. When I had written my story after weeks of devoted work I was surprised I had done it. It had been so easy. Of course, there were typos and paragraphs that needed to be rewritten and major editing of the content. A couple chapters were renamed. Stories were added that had been forgotten. Some stories were deleted. But the point is...I had written a book! Now my children and their children's children would know I had walked upon the earth. They would know me as if they had walked with me because my stories and philosophy of life was in print. I had expressed myself and my beliefs and my advice in the best way I possibly could...for a nurse. After some internet searches to find a publisher and eight months of editing, my book became a reality. It hit the bookshelves in major book stores. I was scheduled for book signings and book talks. TV and radio stations contacted me. Newspapers interviewed me. Colleges and universities invited me to speak to their nursing students. I had a new career as an inspirational speaker. I had somehow reinvented myself when my initial motive was to leave a mark for my posterity. My children (who now have children of their own) have asked me why I never told them about a particular important event... now in black and white in their mother's book. "You never told us that happened" or "Why didn't you ever mention that to us?" they complain. I explain that I had tried (oh how I had tried) at one time. They shake their heads in disbelief that I never shared such wonderful stories with them. The important thing is that they have them now! essay writing service
